How we calculate your score

Each category is compared against a standard personal finance benchmark, not against other users:

  • Budget — ideal scenario: no more than 50% of income on needs, no more than 30% on wants (the 50/30/20 rule).
  • Savings — ideal scenario: saving 20% or more of your monthly income.
  • Debt — ideal scenario: debt payments under 10% of your income, with reasonable interest rates (rates above 10% are penalized).
  • Emergency fund — ideal scenario: 6 months of essential expenses covered.
  • Investing — ideal scenario: investing 15% or more of your monthly income.

Frequently asked questions

How is the score calculated?

We average 5 categories (Budget, Savings, Debt, Emergency fund, Investing), each compared against a personal finance standard — not against other users.

What counts as a good score?

80 or higher is considered excellent. 50-79 means you're on track but there's room to improve. Below 50 signals an area that needs attention soon.

How often should I check my score?

Every 3-6 months is enough to see real progress without getting fixated on normal short-term fluctuations.
